Collecting Art

The Artist and the Collector are kindred spirits.  Be it an experience, a fond memory, a special place, or just a feeling deep inside; both seek an image that will fulfill an emotional need by touching them in a special way.  If the Artist finds what he is looking for and expresses it meaningfully in paint, and the Collector feels the same excitement and connection with the subject, then the whole creative process has come to fruition.  The Artist paints a beautiful work, and the Collector appreciates and validates that by introducing it to the world.

It is always nice to know when we make the right choice.  As a painter I ask myself what attracted my attention?  How did the subject make me feel?  Will it give me a sense of satisfaction?  Should I make the important investment of my time, talent and energy to paint it?  As a Collector you may ask why you were drawn to this painting?  What do you love about the work and what it is saying to you?  Should you trust your feelings and judgement and purchase it?

One thing I have learned as an Artist, is that once I feel the initial tug of a subject, even for a few seconds, it invariably proves to be the right choice to paint.  For me being sensitive to this,  I've learned to trust my initial response and have created a number of very successful paintings.

So too as a Collector, if a particular work of art grabs your attention, captures your eye, pulls you in and makes you look deeper into the piece; if it reaches out and touches you that way, then it is telling you something important about itself and you as well.  You may have found that special work of art you want to take home.

A famous saying is that a room without paintings is like a like a room without windows.  Others say art is a luxury or a nonessential.  However, a painting says more about who you are and what you love than anything else.  It is a statement that will enrich your life as well as the lives of others around you.  There is nothing unessential about that.

I would like to thank all who appreciate and avidly collect my work.  If you are considering a purchase, please feel free to contact me to make owning one of my originals or a print a reality in your life.
